Best Compact SUV
January 31st, 2010
SUV’s are a great thing to have, but not everyone wants a large vehicle. Buying a large SUV is a very expensive endeavor, so is the cost of running it. Many smaller, more compact SUV’s are available that are easier to drive, yet still give you ample cargo room and good old 4X4 handling. The best compact SUV’s around are listed below.
Honda CRV 2010:
There really isn’t anything to not like about the Honda CRV, it gives you everything in one package. It is very stylish and considered to be one of the most well designed small SUVs around. It is quite affordable to purchase and maintain, and the fuel economy is great for a SUV. Older models of the CRV used to look box-like and boring and they proved to be very unpopular.
But now Honda has redesigned the vehicle giving it a new face-lift, as well as adding an extra 14 horsepower to the previously slower engine. This is a great vehicle to purchase, possibly one of the best small SUV’s available.
Toyota RAV4:
The Honda CRV and the Toyota RAV4 are both so similar that you would probably want to test drive both of them before making a decision! The RAV4 is the smallest of the Toyota SUV family, boasting high quality engineering and good fuel economy. It is quite a comfortable and drivable car, filled with all the latest driving aids, such as cruise and stability control, along with a host of other safety features.
Unlike the 4 cylinder engine of the CRV, the 6 cylinder engine of the RAV4 provides powerful performance, yet it is still the most fuel efficient 6 cylinder SUV available. The interior is large, almost as large as some of the mid-sized vehicles of its caliber.
Subaru Forester:
Subaru Forester came out with an all-new look in 2009, providing more interior space, better styling, and better performance. That year they also won the SUV of the Year and Top Family Vehicle awards. Good fuel efficiency is made possible through the fast yet economical engine, as well as its relatively light frame.
It’s the quickest compact SUV to 60 mph, as well as the most fuel efficient. Handling is not all it could be, although it has proven itself to be more maneuverable than the CRV and RAV4. Due to the turbo engines, it runs on premium grade gas. Aside from that it is a competent and great choice for a SUV.
